Leading Kenyukai USA into the Future
The governing body of the North American Kenyukai bears the responsibility of the maintenance and growth of this branch of Uechi Ryu karate, in North America. Also, to help fulfill the Shinjo dream of seeing Uechi Ryu Kenyukai karate spread throughout the world. The governing body, individual Senseis and dojos, all share the common purpose of developing the Kenukai brotherhood and sisterhood among its members.
Furthermore it is our desire to elevate the awareness of the Shinjo family and the Kenyukai method of Uechi Ryu karate to the historic level that it has celebrated in Okinawa since Seiyu Shinjo first became a student of Kanbun Uechi.
The position of Director of the North American Kenyukai was established by Grand Master Kiyohide Shinjo in 1996 with his appointment of Kyoshi Alan Dollar, who still holds that position. By request, a new Director will be appointed in 2009.
The positions of Assistant Director and Secretary were created and filled in June, 2007 at the Kenyukai Sensei Summit as part of the 2007 Koshukai in Austin, Texas.
The positions are evaluated every two years and new appointments can be made at that time. The Sensei of each Kenyukai affiliate dojo offers input and nominations for each position, as well as major issues concerning the running and growth of Kenyukai USA. We are governed by the rules and regulations established by the Kenyukai World Headquarters in Okinawa. Grand Master Shinjo makes all final decisions for the governing of the Kenyukai.
